Today, July 1st, my 8 year old granddaughter Scarlett was with me. Being in business for myself, Tuesdays are usually busy days for me but I awoke before she did and spent some time noticing the sound of rain that is rare gift on my western home.
The Voice said, “enjoy this day with Scarlett”, “let her lead you through the days’ activities”, “be in the moment, moment by moment”, and I was.
I spent the day enjoying how Scarlett loves to make art and spends most of her day doing projects, drawing, looking up ideas in books, going through materials in our art closet and more. We made prayer flags from old material, small books for fairies, houses for fairies. We organized art supplies, wrote in our journals, tended the greenhouse plants, made cards and more. We went for 2 bike rides, hiked with Grandpa to the high road to “kill thistles”, (his favorite activity), baked gluten free cupcakes to go with homemade organic strawberry shortcake, made plates of Mosca Fresca twice, cleaned up about 12 times, finished a book we were reading and started another one. I gave her a “spa bath” complete with every lotion, potion, essential oil and bar of soap I had on hand.
I got nothing “done” for my work today. But this is the joy of having one’s own business and knowing what is important. And today I will remember the moments.
