Arranging a bowl of flowers in the morning can give a sense of quiet in a crowded day – like writing a poem or saying a prayer. -Anne Morrow Lindbergh
Laundry. Flowers. My symbols of faith, gratitude, intention.
I’ve always hung my laundry out to dry…in the warm months off my deck…in winter in my sunroom.
When my children were little and I was a busy homeschool mom and performing artist this was my meditation. Often I wonder if my fascination with flags comes from growing up in NYC and visiting Chinatown with my mother where there were many colorful flags. Or maybe the flags at the United Nations is embedded in my heart?
Now I have time to gather flowers in the morning from my greenhouse. And I have time to meditate and have a daily formal yoga practice.
And I find that prayer flags blowing in the wind in my eye’s view do something to me. I love seeing their colors sparkle in the sun and I love how they move free and easy.
Recently I have found an amazing woman in Russia – Natalie Zheerebtsova who creates art and then prints strands of lovely flags.
I have enjoyed them and have placed them in the woods outside my windows and on my Tiny “Wonky” House. These flags keep me company and make me happy. You can see her many styles and designs and order easily (and very affordable) at her Etsy Site. I love supporting her too….she writes me little email notes sharing about her life and quest for joy and happiness. I feel like I have made a friend who shares the wish for a world filled with peace.
Below is a collection of photos with descriptions of flags I have seen lately. I hope you enjoy and will consider hanging flags at your home or office.
Don’t forget Earth Flags. This one I flew at Camp Ladybug – a camp I held for girls moving into their teen years. I always bring earth flags to the retreats I lead. It helps give us perspective on where we are (amongst other things).
I was so happy to see my girlfriend hung flags on her clothesline. She’s creative!
Natalie’s beautiful flags. Just one of her designs I love.
Flags at my outdoor office bring me color, light and blessings each summer morning. I hope you fly some flags soon.
